Active Atheism...
Isn't it time YOU came out of the closet?
I know you are out there.
There are millions of you in this country, just like me, who flinch every time a politician refers to 'God', or a survivor of some incident blindly thanks 'the Lord' for saving them, (rather than the dozens of firefighters, nurses and support workers still usually cleaning up in the background).
You are the same people who feel the anger rise when an Islamic fundamentalist takes yet another life in the misguided hope that a room full of virgins await him in heaven, or when a right-wing Christian fundamentalist declares once again the evils of the homosexuals and the AIDS curse they have brought upon us?
We live in an age when we can no longer sit back and say 'Let them have their harmless beliefs, lets tolerate each other's faiths.' Because those beliefs are no longer harmless.
Within the bosom of the 'moderates' of all faiths, festers the evil that is fundamentalism.
All the while 'moderates' exist, and pass on their false dogmas to the young, there will be those among them that will use those dogmas to their own ends.
Moderates are in many ways the greatest threat, for they neither fully follow the path of reasoned thought, or wholly devote themselves to a religion, simply 'cherry-picking' the bits that fit in with their modern world existance, whilst ignoring the sections they find uncomfortable to deal with.
How arrogant of these people to on the one hand, declare the Bible, or Koran to be the written word of an all-powerful being, then proceed to second guess this God with their own interpretations of his words?
So, to Active Atheism.
If you do not accept that it is just and fair to have YOUR lives directed or influenced by ill-considered belief or blind faith, stop it from happening. Ask your prospective candidates for elections if they have religious beliefs, and explain to them that your non-belief is as important to you.
Ensure that the schools to which you send your children do not continue to indoctrinate them with falsehoods alongside the facts that they learn about the world around them.
Stop going to church if you do not believe, just for the sake of not offending those around you. You may be suprised to find many of them also have no faith, just a desire to not 'rock the boat'.
It is time to be heard. It is time say goodbye to imaginary friends. It is time to raise the human race above the worship of myths and false Gods. It is our time.

Hurrah! Sign me up!
Thought you'd like that one;-)
I think there should be a section in the rules regarding a politicians fitness to serve. Unless they are prepared to state that at no time will they seek assistance from 'God' or any other imaginary friends, they are disbarred from office under the mental health act.
